Birds can overheat just as dogs and cats do. A bird that is overheated will pant rapidly with their beak open, stand up tall and have their wings spread wide. To cool them down, mist them with water and move them to an indoor, quiet and cool location.

Make sure your pets do not have access to a lawn or garden that has been fertilized or had pesticides put down. These are potentially toxic substances. Car antifreeze can leak from an over-heated vehicle and tastes ‘sweet’ to dogs and cats. Ingestion of this can be deadly!

Travel
When traveling with your pet on vacation, make sure they have proper identification in case they decide to stray. Pet I.D. tags are available at hardware and pet stores. Microchipping is an in-expensive and permanent way to identify your pet and insure his safe return, on a national level.

HEAT EXPOSURE
Never leave your dog unattended in a parked car. The car can become a furnace, reaching temps of 120* degrees within a matter of minutes, even with the windows cracked. Exposure to such high temperatures can lead to heatstroke, heart problems, liver and brain damage or even death!
