Children can be so mean to one another. What kids say when they are so young to each other can actually stick with a person forever. I can remember one summer having a crush on another boy down the street from me. I was best friends with his sister so we played together a lot. Late one afternoon all the neighborhood kids had gathered in my backyard and we were playing together. I had thought I was doing innocent flirting with the boy I had a crush on the whole time all the kids were over at my house. I was having a blast playing tag, racing, and exploring with everyone. Next thing I know one of the neighborhood kids must've observed the flirting and pointed at the boy shouting, "Haha you like Katie!" I'm sure the boy was embarrassed so he lunged at the kid that said it and shouted back, "EWW NO I DON'T! THAT'S GROSS! SHE'S FAT!" Do you want to try and guess how old I was?! SIX YEARS OLD! I can remember that day vividly. My heart literally sunk in my chest. I was mortified, embarrassed, and hurt. That may have been one of the earliest times that I can remember someone calling me fat. From that point on I think I was always conscious of my weight.
