Living Food: Part 2-
The vendors who participated at our neighborhood weekly organic market range from pastries (I don’t know that their ingredients are organic), organic cheeses, vegetables, meats, coffee and a great lavender vendor that allows the children to make sachets.
The man from the Wooden Shoe Gardens Living Food Community Supported Program explained that “community supported agriculture is both a program and a process where interested consumers team up with a nearby farmer to mutually enhance others welfare.”
Farmers benefit from the long-term survival of their livelihood.
The people eating the produce are finding the freshest, quality product with good prices (counter intuitive, I always thought it cost more but I haven’t found that to be true here locally), and to help support my local farmers.
The CSA enhances the relationship between farmers and their neighbors. The consumer involvement can range from just being a regular customer, working the fields for an agreed upon percentage of the yield, to being on the board of directors for CSA.
