Continued from 10/29/10. All of our incredible family and friends flooded the waiting room and delivery room. I had no idea the depth of how many people love us so much and wanted to be part of such a monumental landmark in our lives. Our son was born at 6:40 and by the time all visitors had left it was 10:30. We were exhausted. I felt horrible for asking the nurse to even put our little FJ (that will be his nickname for my blogs) in the nursery. However, everyone I had talked to said to get the sleep while we could so I sucked up all my feelings of guilt and did it because we were truly exhausted. Thank goodness I did! At about midnight a nurse came in and said she sent our son up to the special care nursery. She was concerned with his breathing which was still not improving. She had called the Children's Hospital doctor on call to come check him out. In the meantime the doctor had ordered a chest X-ray and would be coming in to discuss the results with us. My husband and I were definitely worried and concerned but at least our son was in good hands. It wasn't until an hour later that the doctor came in and said our son had pneumonia most likely from swallowing too much amniotic fluid. He was going to be hooked up to monitors for his breathing, an IV for fluids, an anti-biotic, and oxygen. So now we were in full heightened panic almost. There was nothing that could have prepared us for the realization that our son had pneumonia and wouldn't be in the same room with us or coming home with us for at least a week. Imagine being told this news on next to no sleep in 48 hours, pushing a child out of your uterus, and being overly hormonal from post-partum. Needless to say, we were overwhelmed. To be continued...
