1/15/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

Tonight my husband and I were watching one of those reality shows about a group of twenty year-olds living together.  One of the girls in the house was asked if she would ever pose for playboy and of course the girl said she would consider it.  Well, one of the boys in the house pounced right on her and said she wasn't skinny enough.  She left the room and then burst into tears.  She by no means is overweight.  She is a curvy, gorgeous girl who maybe weighs about 140 pounds.  That's not even the point.  I was so angry at the guy that said that to her.  Look what our society is doing to girls; including myself!  The pressure to be thin is everywhere.  The girl then started talking about her life-long battle with weight, how she works out everyday, eats healthy, and has grown up with a mom who is an aerobics instructor and personal trainer.  Ugh it was awful, I totally related to her and it made me so sad for young girls.  She talked about how evident it was that her mom battled it all her life.  She grew up with a mom that was obsessed with being "healthy" and it made me easily relate to her because that's how my Mom was.  She was an aerobics instructor and nutritionist.  My Mom and I are best friends and as much as she wanted to shelter me from her own "issues" with weight; it came out by always forcing me to work out at a young age and harping on all the fatty food we are surrounded with on a daily basis.  She tried to protect me from the fight against weight but combined with her way of protecting me and a metabolism that was inclined towards a heavier set girl - I guess I was doomed for an eating disorder.  It breaks my Mom's heart to hear that when she tried so hard to be the opposite what she feared came true.  I worry about repeating the same patterns with my own children some day...

Breakfast - 

3/4 Bran flakes with 1/4 cup organic raisins

1 cup fat-free organic milk

Snack - 

Jenny Craig Cookie's N' Cream Vitamin Bar 

Lunch - 


Asian Chicken Salad (no chicken, no almonds) with no dressing

side of low-fat vegetable soup with a small piece of bread

Snack - 


Dinner - 

1 cup Organic Mac & Cheese

Steamable Carrot, Cauliflower, Broccoli with 1 tbsp. margarine

Snack - 

1 packet no sugar added hot chocolate with 2 tbsp. sugar-free cool whip

100 calorie pack
