9/26/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Sunday

Two weeks until hopefully our son is here!  My doctor said if I haven't gone into labor by the 11th then she will only make me go another week...so maximum of three weeks away from meeting my baby!  We are at 38 weeks today.  The baby is approximately 6-7 pounds and 19 inches long!  The last thing to develop are the lungs but he could most likely survive on his own at this point.  The eyes are fully developed but the iris' may not show a definitive color until a few months after the baby is born.  Many of the sites I looked at said that these final weeks can be torture because they're a waiting game.  There's really no telling when the baby is going to be ready to come out.  These final weeks also may bring on some swelling as the baby begins to go into the birthing canal causing pressure on many of the nerves in the body.  This has happened ever so slightly to me.  My hands and feet are a little swollen but by no means are they painful as I've seen in some of my friends.  I'm thankful that this particular symptom did not effect me as much as it could have!
