8/31/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 31. August 2014 19:18

Your body usually tells you when you're missing a vital nutrient - especially when you're trying to be healthy and eliminate certain foods.  Both Jenny Craig and my maintenance diet push for a balanced diet.  However, sometimes you just don't realize you're still not eating enough of something.  For some reason I stretch my legs/toes a lot when I'm sleeping and don't realize it.  The past two nights I've woken up with a killer charlie horse.  They usually mean one of three things:  you're either exercising a lot and not stretching enough, low potassium, or you're dehydrated.  I have been a lot more mobile this school year walking across our building constantly.  I'm still horseback riding and I walk 2 miles almost every night but I've done much more intense exercise than this so I don't feel like it could be exercise.  That leaves the other option:  dehydration.  I drink 24 oz. in the am, 24 oz. in a water bottle throughout the school day, 16 oz. at lunch, and 24 oz. at dinner.  That brings me to a grand total of 88 oz. per day.  That is way more than the recommended amount of about 64 oz. for the day.  But, I have still been thirsty after I finish my water bottle at school lately.  I'm going to try adding another water and see if that helps.  The last option would be I'm not getting enough potassium even though I eat a banana everyday.  Regardless, I need to figure out what my body is telling me I'm missing.
