Metabolic Syndrome: Part 1-
Metabolic Syndrome is a condition being diagnosed in the United States at an alarming rate. Part of the reason you don’t hear a lot about metabolic syndrome is that doctors don’t agree on the cause or even a definition. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/metabolicsyndrome.html . The syndrome has increased from 1990 to the year 2000, 50 million to 64 million. With that marked increase comes a long list of health issues and costs to the patients, employers and the economic system for the whole country.
There is an interrelated link with metabolic syndrome between obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. WellBeingJournal.com quotes researchers as saying “Increases in high blood pressure, waist circumference, and [elevated triglycerides] accounted for much of the increase in the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome, particularly among women.”
Tomorrow I will list the risk factors that are indicators of metabolic syndrome. Knowing symptoms may help you make changes that can stop your advancement towards this condition, and begin a healthier lifestyle.
